Darren Waller Traded to the New York Giants

Giants Acquire Tight End in Blockbuster Move

Trade Agreement Finalized, Waller Returns to New Jersey

In a surprising move, the New York Giants have acquired tight end Darren Waller from the Las Vegas Raiders in exchange for a 2023 third-round pick. The trade, confirmed by ESPN's Adam Schefter, comes as a significant move for the Giants as they bolster their offensive arsenal for quarterback Daniel Jones.

Waller, a Pro Bowl selection in 2020, had been the subject of trade rumors throughout the offseason. Despite returning to Las Vegas from his honeymoon on Monday, he found himself in New Jersey on Tuesday after the Raiders informed him of the trade.

The Giants see Waller as a valuable addition to their offense, providing Jones with a reliable target and red zone threat. The 29-year-old tight end has been a consistent producer, amassing over 1,000 receiving yards in each of the past three seasons.

The Raiders, meanwhile, receive a valuable draft pick in return for Waller. The team is entering a rebuilding phase under new head coach Josh McDaniels and the third-round selection will provide them with flexibility in the upcoming draft.

Waller's arrival in New York marks the continuation of the Giants' aggressive offseason moves, following the signing of star wide receiver Kenny Golladay and the trade for quarterback Tyrod Taylor. The Giants hope that these acquisitions will help them improve upon their disappointing 4-13 record from the 2022 season.
