Ezekiel Elliott Returns to the Dallas Cowboys

Re-signs with Former Team After One Season with the Patriots

Former NFL Rushing Champion to Rejoin the Cowboys

In a surprising turn of events, Ezekiel Elliott is back in Dallas. The running back signed a contract with the Cowboys on Monday, according to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero and Ian Rapoport. This marks Elliott's return to the team after spending one season with the New England Patriots.

Elliott had a disappointing year with the Patriots, rushing for only 642 yards and three touchdowns in 184 carries. This was a significant drop-off from his production in Dallas, where he was a three-time Pro Bowler and led the NFL in rushing in 2016. The Patriots designated Elliott as a post-June 1 cut, which means the club will save nearly $11 million against the 2023 cap.

The Cowboys lost running back Tony Pollard in free agency, who replaced Elliott as Dallas' feature back last year. Pollard signed with the Tennessee Titans after back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons. The Cowboys have added free agent running back Saquon Barkley to their roster, but Elliott is expected to be the team's lead back.
